Week of January 28- February 1, 2019  - PRESCHOOL ENGLISH NEWS

Dear Parents of Preschool,

The month of January is coming to an end, and we embrace the month of February this Friday.

In the past month, I have come to care so much for my darling Preschool English students. They are for me truly an inspiration!  In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Every morning, with my classroom door wide open, the students come in with bright smiles and their eyes full of wonder.  We start the day with the "Good Morning" song, and we sing and dance together. Beginning the day with a positive attitude helps set the pace for the rest of their day! (Btw, mine too!)

In Pre-Pre English, we continue with counting in English and naming different items to enhance their vocabulary. I display powerpoint presentations during the week, and one on one, I guide the students and they taken turns in counting the items displayed on the board, such as apples, etc. Last week, we did an activity in which I gave them "money" using paper post-its, and students took turns buying from each other, and counting how many dollars for each item that was being sold by their classmates. When students engage in this role-playing, guided by me and in constant conversation in English, it seems like playing to them, but they are actually listening, speaking and learning English in a fun way! I recommend, as much as is possible at home, to create some "English only" moments. Set aside a block of 15 minutes daily of "English Only" conversation. By making it a game, it is fun for them, while at the same time encouraging them to speak more English outside the classroom. An older brother or sister can be also of great help and it can become a family game that all of you can enjoy!

In Pre-Kinder English, we continue with Unit 7: Foods We Like; this week, the unit introduces the letter S, and students will learn vocabulary words with the letter S. I have a powerpoint presentation for the students about the letter S, so they can learn the new vocabulary. Then, they will continue with practice in their workbooks. At the end of the week, the students will do a fun craft activity of making their own sandwich using felt, sponges, and glue.

In Kinder English, we continue with the letter P, practicing with worksheets in the notebook, and getting ready for our little test next week, on February 6. Also we continue with our Big Book story, Animal Babies in the Grasslands, and end the week with a fun activity related to the story.

Many blessings to you!

Let’s embrace the child in each of us! Take care,

Ms. Haydee
